Understanding about Buyers at Car Auctions
If you observe or listen with care to the commercials on cars, you will hear most of them speaking about some features they can boast about. But, not many of them will speak about an important quality that is needed in every car and that is Reliability. This is so because many of the new cars that are present on the market give problems even when they are brand new.
Since some make of cars are considered more reliable than some other make of cars, these cars are the ones that get picked up like hot cakes at car auctions. Or to just put in two words, you can infer that “Reliability Sells”. People look for reliable cars to purchase at car auctions. Next in line come maintenance costs. For this reason, you might not see people flocking to buy a car that is very expensive to have and maintain like a BMW or a Saab. There is a totally different type of buyer who will opt for such luxury cars and their percentage is not so high.
To land a good car at the car auction, you need to have perfect timing but it also depends on what you need and what type of buyers are present in the auction. Every car auction will see diverse buyers due to which you might see different cars being sold more in different auctions. So, you should know when to purchase at a car auction and when to refrain from doing so.
The Diverse Type of Buyers
For all purposes, we are assuming that you are a novice at auctions with no experience whatsoever. Your kind forms the first type of buyers. Such buyers are looking at car auctions hoping to get a good deal and purchase a car that runs and does not have any problems. But, such buyers are the most erratic of all buyers as they can be real impulsive and you would not know just how much they may bid for a car. It may also depend on how many of these will arrive at a car auction. It is best not to judge other people present at the auction just by their looks.
Next, we have people who look for reliable cars. These people will go for cars of a particular make and will pay a good price for it. But, these people generally back out if there are other bidders for the car. As there are many buyers who will buy reliable cars, you might not be able to compete for such cars, especially the ones that get sold initially during the auction.
There is a tendency for such cars to be sold more if the season is prior to winter. If you are looking for such cars, then you might not be able to pick the hot cars of the season and you might have to just wait till the very end of the auction to be able to pick up some cars that fall in the reliability sector. But, these cars may not be the best of the lot.
The third type of buyer is the one who has an interest in cars and is looking for something affordable so that he can improvise these cars for use. Such buyers will not go in for expensive options like trucks, luxury cars, minivans or SUVs except when it falls in the budget of the buyer. But, when they spot a real deal that they can pick up and flip it for a higher price, they might just go in for it.
The next category of buyers is those who look out for luxury cars. These are the ones who have the capital to splurge on these expensive cars and would not mind using it to pick up a good car. These people go in for cars that come with a guarantee or the ones that are offered by dealers at a price lower than normal. You might also see such type of buyers going in for classic cars or cars that have special value or sentiment to it. You might see more of these buyers in the warmer seasons.
